ROSSLYN PARK U22s WIN THE SURREY CUP AT THE FIRST TIME OF ASKING
Rosslyn Park put together their first U22 squad this season to compete in the Surrey Cup.
30 players participated in group matches at Christmas and knock out matches at Easter – all scheduled to coincide with University holidays. Park’s side had an unbeaten season and went on to win the competition.
Significantly, these former Rosslyn Park youth players have made the initial step towards men’s rugby from age grade. The squad included 4 x U18s, 15 x U19s and 11 x U20s. A bright future ahead for everyone involved.
Coach Greg Sendell reiterated how important teams like this are for the club;
“As a club Rosslyn Park is tremendously proud of our inaugural u22s squad. We want to create both a pipeline and a stepping stone between our successful minis and youth to our adult sides, especially the 1st XV.
The last 2 or 3 Colts cohorts in particular have been very strong, we’ve coached and watched them win multiple Surrey Cups, Quins Cup and even the u18s National Cup, plus numerous players have received representative honours.
So pulling together the u22s squad from the 2023-24 & 2024-25 Colts groups (plus a few from our current 2025-26 Colts) has been a really rewarding and satisfying process. These players are currently enjoying high level BUCS rugby at University so to get the chance to play for Rosslyn Park u22s in the Xmas and Easter break in the Surrey u22 Cup has been a joy to watch. Across the competition scoring 15 tries and conceding just 3 they work really hard for each other and love to play fast tempo rugby.
The squad is young for an u22s competition with an average age of just 19 so the future looks bright and we can’t wait for next season. From Rosslyn Park minis, to youth to men they are a fantastic group to coach and seeing them develop into really good players ready for the adult game makes us very proud as a coaching group and as a club.”
