NETBALL – Weekends Round Up

Rosslyn Park Greens v. Cobham C – 14-Sep-24

In a closely contested first match of the season, Rosslyn Park Greens fell just short against Cobham C, with the final score 42-35 in Cobham’s favour. It was the first time the Greens had played together, and with the sun shining, it was ideal conditions for the teams to showcase their skill and energy on court.

Rosslyn Park kept pace with Cobham from the get-go, and it was great to see new player combinations and play flowing through the court. Unfortunately, Cobham pulled away in the second quarter, creating a lead that eventually would prove too tough to overcome.

Final Score: 42-35 to Cobham C

Green’s next match is Away on the 28th September, where they face Wallington Wolves.

Surrey Gold’s first away game took them to Cobham on a sunny Saturday morning. With a couple of the team’s regular players unavailable, it was a great opportunity to trial new combinations in different positions. Bennet in GS provided a fast-moving circle, working well with Kelk in GA. Kelk’s well-timed drives in the front two-thirds of the court helped carry the ball to the attacking circle.

Murphy in WA and Stafford in C varied their pace down the court, alternating between fast drives during turnovers and slower, more composed play in key moments to maintain possession. Lewis in WD was a key playmaker at the back, effectively communicating the defensive setup to the team. This allowed her and the rest of the team to secure countless turnovers in the zone defense through intercepts, tips, and forced errors. In the defensive circle, a different combination of Patterson in GD and Saggers in GK disrupted Cobham’s attack, creating numerous turnovers. \

The team demonstrated their fitness and preseason efforts, with every player managing to play the full 60 minutes without substitutions. Their full-court attacking and defensive efforts kept Park in the lead throughout the entire game.

Final Score: 49-32.

The Gold’s next match is 12/10/24 away to Guildford.
