It’s very exciting to be back at home for the first time this season and especially being against our neighbours. These games over previous years have been highly competitive. I’m sure Saturday will be no different.
The players and staff have been working incredibly hard over the pre-season. We started back in early July and had the privilege of being able to use the facilities at St. Paul’s School for our camps. To play the way we want, requires high amounts of physical fitness, speed and power. Throughout the summer, the squad have been dedicated in improving their physical standards with many players setting new personal records.
It was imperative that we kept the majority of our playing squad together over the summer. This would provide continuity to our systems and style of play going into the new season. I’m also delighted with the new additions we have welcomed to the club this year. They all bring unique strengths and skillsets that will contribute to the existing squad. The new players have all integrated well into the squad and I look forward to seeing their impact over the season.
Last season the players started to re-establish the clubs reputation on being both a strong attacking team whilst having a tough forward pack. This season myself and the players will again continue to develop this identity. We are well aware of our responsibilities when representing a club with such rich history and reputation.
The team are very conscious of the competitiveness of the league. That is no different with Richmond. They are a well-coached, physical side with good experienced players. It is going to require a huge team effort from us to have a successful outcome.
I hope you all enjoy the game and I look forward to meeting our supporters again after the game.
