Match Preview – Rosslyn Park vs Plymouth Albion

The 1st XV will kickoff the 23/24 Nat 1 season on Saturday as they welcome Plymouth Albion to The Rock.

Very little separated these sides last season as 5th placed Plymouth finished just one position behind Park on the league table. In addition to this, across the two head to head matches last year, both teams picked up a home win. This continues a trend across the 7 years since Plymouth’s promotion to Nat 1 which has seen one of the sides do the double just once (in 2018/19 when Park won home and away). Outside of that season, a record of 5 wins, 5 losses and 2 draws demonstrate just how little separates these two sides.

The first meeting last year was a low-scoring affair down on the South coast amidst a torrential downpour. It ended 13-10 and saw Park score the only try of the match despite ultimately coming up short.

The return fixture at The Rock in March provided a much different viewing experience as the sides played out a high-scoring thriller that saw 12 tries scored. In that match, Park came back from an early 2-try deficit to win 41-32.

Here’s hoping this year’s season opener plays out in a similar way. If it does, you will not want to miss it!
