Match Preview – Blackheath (H)

A clash against rivals Blackheath awaits the 1st XV on Saturday for the final home match of the season

The 1st XV will play their final home game of the 2023/24 season on Saturday as rivals Blackheath are set to make the trip across London. Following last week’s narrow loss away at Cinderford, the 1st XV find themselves 6 points ahead of 4th placed Plymouth whom Park are set to face on the final day of the season. This means a win against Blackheath this weekend would all-but secure a third place finish whilst an additional bonus-point would mathematically rule out Plymouth from finishing higher than 4th.

In their first season back in National One, Blackheath have found themselves firmly mid-table as they currently sit in 8th on 60 points. Having won as many matches as they have lost so far, it has been a mixed bag of results for the East London outfit with a 40-point margin of victory against Cinderford and a win against the league leaders Chinnor (who have only lost 4 times this season) being the high points.

One of their more disappointing results came in the reverse fixture back in early December as Park inflicted an impressive shut-out loss on Blackheath amidst a powerful gale. That match ended 0-15 as a Benji Marfo first-half brace and a second-half score from Arthur Ellis, combined with some phenomenal defence as Blackheath chased a try late on, was enough to see the 1st XV pick up the impressive win.

It is always a fiery affair when Rosslyn Park and Blackheath meet, and tomorrow will be no different as both sides will be looking to end their seasons on a strong note. Don’t miss out.
