Surrey’s premier Colts Rugby competition is the Quins Cup which is divided into tiers. Rosslyn Park Colts As compete in the top tier and have progressed to the ‘Gold’ Final v Wimbledon to be played at The Stoop on Wednesday 24 April, KO 7pm, gates open at 5.00pm, free entry.
The journey to the final has been a real squad effort with 34 boys involved in the four matches to date and a remarkable 42 appearing for the As at some point this season.
They kicked off their campaign away to last year’s runners-up Farnham which ended in a close 17-15 victory, followed by another away win at Reeds.
The third game was against Wimbledon, who had also won their first two, but there was to be no repeat. The boys produced some of their best rugby this season, final score 40-31.
A home semi-final against last year’s champions Guildford was up next and Park were on top throughout, scoring a couple of superb backline tries. Two breakaway scores brought Guildford back into it but, a day after Marcus Smith’s dropped goal clinched England’s win over Ireland, a clearly inspired Max McCarthy popped one over to put the icing on an impressive 23-13 victory.
Wimbledon pulled off a surprise in their semi-final, handing National Cup finalists Dorking their only defeat of the season, so it will be a tough test on April 24th, but one the boys are desperate to rise to.
We hope to see lots of Park Members in attendance to support our Colts…Come On Park!
