Away Travel – Rotherham

Charlie Addiman Reports…

Our first away match of the season is at Rotherham. The ground is located in Clifton Lane,  Rotherham S60 2SN. It is almost exactly a mile from the station, so walkable for most, or there buses X1 and X2 run from close to the station (College Road / Bridge Street) to Clifton Lane every 15 minutes.

There are two ways of getting there by public transport: from St Pancras via Sheffield or from Kings Cross via Doncaster. At the time our regulars booked, Kings Cross was the cheaper option. In both cases the onward service when changing trains is by Northern Rail, who have proved not to be the most reliable operator in the past. There is an advantage in travelling via Sheffield inasmuch as it is closer to Sheffield and there is a speedy and frequent bus service to and from the adjacent bus station should your connecting train be cancelled. You could indeed just book to Sheffield and take the bus (which is free if you have a Freedom Pass). It is probably best to compare fares and times and make your own judgement, but don’t delay booking in case all the cheapest advance tickets have gone.

We usually suggest a local hostelry where you can get a decent ale and possibly bump into other Park supporters. The bad news is that the CAMRA guide only has one recommended bar in town – the good news is that it is the clubroom at Rotherham rugby club!
