ROSSLYN PARK 40-26 WESTCOMBE PARK – 22/08/25
The 1st XV saw off the challenge of Westcombe Park on Saturday to continue their winning start to the pre-season campaign.
The match started with a lovely move launched from a lineout that eventually saw Freddie Vaughan stroll over just 2 minutes in. Park’s ascendency continued in the early exchanges and, after a well-earned scrum penalty, Freddie Roddick and Luke Mehson almost combined for an incredible second try, if not for a Westcombe hand batting the ball away at the last second. Harry Ledger did eventually double the lead on 20 minutes as he popped up at the end of a flowing succession of passes to dot down.
Ahead of half time, the visitors crossed over twice — first through Thompson on the right wing, then through tighthead Roofe following a lineout deep in Park territory after an infringement at the breakdown.
In the second half it was once again the 1st XV who started on top. An early try thanks to some sharp footwork by Mehson was followed by a Murray Redpath score as the scrum-half darted over from close range. Westcombe responded with their best spell of the match, scoring twice in 5 minutes — first from a quick tap, then from a Park infringement which resulted in a penalty try.
However, the 1st XV responded well to conceding and struck back through Ali Wade on a short carry before Jasper Cameron powered over from a maul to extend the lead even further.
Despite the visitors’ best efforts to pull themselves back into the contest late on, a resolute Park defence met them at every turn to prevent another score and ultimately secure a well-earned victory.
