The 1st XV welcome Taunton Titans to The Rock on Saturday in a clash between two of the highest scoring teams in the league.
Following last week’s Friday Night Lights clash at Chinnor, the 1st XV find themselves in 6th place. Taunton, on the other hand, find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle as they currently sit in 13th, just one point ahead of last placed Bishop’s Stortford, having won just four times this season.
However, despite their struggles, the Somerset outfit have been one of the more free-scoring sides in the entire league this season. The 12 try-bonus points they have picked up across 18 games this season is good for the 3rd best total in the whole league, behind just Chinnor and Rams who have 14 each.
This attacking threat was on display earlier in the season as they picked up a big win against the 1st XV in the reverse fixture back in October, tallying 40 points. In that match, a Charlie Walker brace was accompanied by a try by Matt Gordon for Park, but it was not enough to overcome the clinical attacking display put on by the hosts. That match, along with last week’s 49-14 win over Sedgley Park, was the best all around performance put on by the Titans this season and the result will be one that the 1st XV will be keen to avenge.
It is not just Taunton who can brag about their attacking prowess, however, as only Chinnor and Rams have scored more points than Park this season, with Taunton also finding themselves in the top five for highest scoring attacks, having tallied 503 and 495 points apiece.
