Match Preview – Leicester Lions (H)

This Saturday the 1st XV welcome an in-form Leicester Lions to The Rock for the first time

Following the thrilling 21-27 win away at Bishop’s Stortford a fortnight ago, the 1st XV now find themselves within touching distance of 3rd place, trailing Birmingham Moseley by just 4 points. To make things even more interesting, Plymouth, whom Park are set to face in the final week of the season, currently occupy the 5th spot on the table just 2 points behind Park.

Like the 1st XV, Leicester Lions will also come into Saturday’s clash on a hot streak of form, having won 5 of their last 7 with the only losses during that stretch coming against 3rd placed Moseley and 2nd placed Rams. However, despite this red hot form, 12th placed Cinderford’s win over Richmond last time out keeps Leicester only 2 points clear of the bottom-three meaning that every point will matter for the midlands outfit’s survival hopes.

The last time these sides met was back in early November when the 1st XV secured a hard-earned bonus point win thanks to two late tries from Charlie Walker and Conrad Cade. Josh Bragman and Benji Marfo both also got in on the try-scoring action with Bragman adding two penalties to go 5 for 6 from the tee on the day in addition to his try.

The 1st XV will hope for a repeat of this result on Saturday, but will be faced with a side embroiled in a relegation dogfight. It should make for a great contest.
