a look ahead to SATURDAY’s game
Cambridge vs rosslyn park, Saturday 25th february, KO 2PM
The 1st XV are headed to Cambridge on Saturday as they look to close the gap at the top of the league.
Cambridge currently sit 2nd in the table on 80 points, 7 points adrift of Rams and 13 clear of Park having lost just three times this season (in addition to a solitary draw). Two of these losses came at the hands of the league leaders, including their only home loss of the campaign so far, meaning that Cambridge have won 15 out of 17 against the rest of the league. This includes a 22-24 victory at The Rock that saw them survive a late comeback as Park, through a Henry Robinson brace and tries from Benji Marfo and Charlie Piper, came within inches of securing a last-second win.
In that late October fixture at The Rock Cambridge lead by as many as 21 points, but saw that lead rapidly shrink as Park refused to lie down, outscoring Cambridge 22-3 across the final 25 minutes. Even more remarkably, Park left 9 points out on the pitch that day, with three of the tries going unconverted and a game-winning penalty attempt in the 80th minute being pushed just wide of the right upright. The 1st XV will be well aware of how close they came to beating Cambridge that day and can be confident of getting a better result on Saturday.
If the reverse fixture is anything to go by, this weekend’s matchup should prove to be a cracking contest.
