Match Preview – Bishop’s Stortford (H)

The 1st XV are headed East on Saturday to take on Bishop’s Stortford.

Following last week’s win, the 1st XV find themselves back in 5th place on the league table and are now within just three points of Plymouth in 4th. Richmond and DMP both sit just one point behind and things are shaping up for a tight finish to the season.

This weekend’s opposition come into the match off the back of a crucial 14-22 win away at Sedgley Park last weekend that saw them leapfrog both Cinderford and Taunton to lift them off the bottom of the table into 12th. That result broke a six-match losing streak and will have reignited their hopes for survival as Bishop’s Stortford now sit level with 11th placed Leicester Lions on 35 points.

In the reverse fixture at The Rock back in November, the 1st XV secured a comfortable 48-22 victory. Park ran in seven tries in the day and four of these were scored by the ever-clinical Charlie Walker with Benji Marfo, Will Burton and Jacob Wrafter also getting in on the scoring action. Joshua Bragman rounded off the performance with a very solid outing from the tee slotting 6 kicks in 8 attempts.

The 1st XV will be hoping for a repeat performance of that November matchup, but will be faced with a side with everything to play for, embroiled in battle for survival and buoyed by a big win last weekend. It should make for a cracking contest.
