Welcome to Coach’s Corner with Steven Neville

In our previous two games the players have had to perform in extremely challenging conditions. Our last home game was a high scoring game against Plymouth. I thought the players managed the conditions extremely well that day. We were a little disappointed that the scoreline was as close as it was. With a little more game management, we felt we could have limited their try- scoring opportunities further. Last week’s game was played, for most players, in the most challenging conditions they have ever faced. With a strong wind in our faces, we went in at half time probably too far behind.

After failing to convert early on in the second half conditions and the players wellness worsened further. Myself and the players have learnt a lot from the experience, however, the probability of playing in similar conditions again are slim. We are all looking forward to being back at home with the chance to play the rugby we have been working so hard on in training.

The group is determined to bounce back from last week’s disappointing result and give a performance that aligns with that of the club. Rams RFC are a well-coached, physical side with good experienced players. We have taken time to identify their many strengths. However, the group believe our own strengths can have a major impact on the game.

Undoubtedly, it is going to require a huge team effort from us to have a successful outcome. After the game, I look forward to meeting all our supporters. If I don’t manage to catch you, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
