MATCH REPORT: Leicester Lions v Rosslyn Park

Leicester Lions 13 – 26 Rosslyn Park
06/12/25

On a wet afternoon in the East Midlands, Rosslyn Park got themselves back to winning ways away against a tough Leicester Lions side. Tries from Charlie Walker, Matt Woodward, Max Fraine and Cam King ensured Park would be heading back to London with all five points. The wet weather played its part, but the visitors eventually dominated the second half.

The game started best for the hosts, who mounted some early pressure, forcing Rosslyn Park to concede a penalty. They pointed to the posts, and Luke Bouchier gave them an early three‑point lead.

However, Park responded well with pressure of their own. Matt Woodward secured a turnover which put us in their 22, before some excellent carrying from the forwards allowed Steff James to fling it wide to Charlie Walker, who used his magic feet to open the visitors’ account for the afternoon.

Park built on the momentum minutes later. Luke Mehson found a gap on halfway before some interplay between Ewan Fenley and Joe Luca Smith saw the ball eventually popped nicely to Woodward, who scored. This time James converted. But Leicester responded well. On the 33‑minute mark, they stole a lineout in our 22 and Monty Loggenberg strode through a gap to cut the deficit to two before half‑time.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first, a nervy affair where the wet ball made scrums a common occurrence. Park attacked well but were unable to get over the line. It took until the 62nd minute for the first points to ensue, Bouchier claiming another three to put Lions in the lead.

However, in classic Park fashion, there was an immediate response from the kick‑off. The ball touched a Leicester player on its way into touch, and a powerful maul saw Cam King peel off and dive over for the score, putting the visitors back in control.

The forwards then continued to dominate, with Max Fraine taking the spoils from the back of another perfect maul. It was evident the Park pack was becoming too much for the hosts as they finished off the match to make it 13–26. An excellent display secured a much‑needed win as they look to get their season back on track.
