Match Preview – Rams (A)

The 1st XV head to Reading on Saturday to take on an unbeaten Rams side.

The 1st XV face a real test this weekend as they look to get back to winning ways following last week’s narrow defeat to Birmingham Moseley. That loss has left Rams as the only unbeaten team through three game weeks with three bonus-point victories over Moseley, Chinnor and Sedgley Park. Rams are no strangers to strong starts to Nat One seasons, as they opened up last year with an 11-match winning streak. In fact, they spent almost the entirety of last season atop the league standings, losing just four times, and being usurped by the eventual Champions Cambridge at the very tail end of the season.

As for Park, the 1st XV will hope to carry on the free-scoring form that has seen them run in 14 tries across the first three matches. Interestingly, those 14 tries have been scored by 10 different players (only Charlie Walker and Josh Addams have scored more than once). This strength in depth of scoring ability coupled with a willingness to vary their attack is a huge part of why the 1st XV has been successful so far. This is key and will need to be replicated on Saturday as they seek to topple the league leaders for the first time since Rams’ promotion to Nat One three seasons ago.

AWAY TRAVEL

Charlie Addiman Writes..

While Reading is the nearest station it isn’t walkable to the ground. There is a bus from there that passes by the ground although our regular supporters have located the stop but never the bus. It’s best to opt for a cab but, be warned, the fare is around £15 each way. If you turn right out of the station towards the bottom of the hill there is a local pub called the Greyfriars which opens just after noon and usually you pass any amount of cabs parked up on the way.  If you’re looking to share the fare it might be a good place to meet up.

PARKING AT THE GROUND – please pre-book your car park ticket

To encourage everyone to car share, organise a lift, walk or use public transport all cars parked on the Old Bath Road ground will be charged £10 per car.

Pre-book your car park tickets here

Please contact Rams directly if you are a blue badge holder and require a larger space.
