Match Preview – Cinderford (H)

A LOOK AHEAD to Saturday’s season opener against Cinderford

Rosslyn Park vs Cinderford, Saturday 3rd September, KO 3PM

Rosslyn Park kick off their National League One season this weekend as they welcome Cinderford to The Rock.  It is sure to be another nail-biting affair between two clubs who finished 3rd and 5th respectively after last year’s campaign, and who were separated in the end by just 6 points. Park are yet to lose a game against Cinderford since their opposition’s promotion to National One following the 2017/18 season, but that record belies how hotly contested this fixture has been in recent memory. A single score separated these sides in each of their two fixtures last year with Park running out as 38-31 victors at home in the first tie and 10-13 winners away at Cinderford in the second.

Park will be coming off a successful preseason which saw them score dominant victories against both Worthing and Tonbridge Juddians (tallying a combined 150 points across the two matches), and only losing to last year’s Championship winners Ealing Trailfinders. Cinderford will be looking to regain some form following a preseason in which they would have hoped for better results as they followed up a home win versus Matson with back-to-back losses against Llandovery and Hartpury.

It will be a rather new look Park that will take the field on Saturday following a summer that saw captain Hugo Ellis retire, seven others also depart and 18 new signings join the club. This overhaul in the squad is sure to bolster Park’s promotion push this year as they look to improve upon last year’s 3rd place finish. New signings on the wing Sam Aspland-Robinson and Charlie Walker were prolific in preseason scoring eight tries between them, and the new centre partnership of Matt Gordon and Tom Stanton got the chance to gel as the duo started all three preseason games together.

You won’t want to miss what is likely to be a hard-fought, close-run and intense contest between these two clubs with aspirations of securing promotion to the Championship. Tickets are available to buy online here at £14.50 for adults (£17 on the gate), £12 for concession and U16s go free!
