MATCH REPORT: Worcester Park Lions A vs Kingston Reds

Saturday 18th November

Starting lineup for Rosslyn Park Reds: GS- Charlotte Hicks, GA-Milly Marsh, WA- Hannah Gilbert, C-Charlotte Stafford, WD-Kate Waskett  GD-Abby Mahal, GK-Gabs Cross. Subs: Lauren Garnham, Georgie Howes, Pip Medley

The first Quarter saw the Reds dominate and once we found settled into the first 5 minutes we came out strong and displayed some brilliant attacking play. Some strong feeds into the circle from Hannah Gilbert (WA) and Charlotte Stafford (Centre) saw us take the lead in the first quarter 15-9.

Lions came back in the second quarter hard and this saw us have to utlise our defence and work really hard to keep their very tall GS out of play. Gabs Cross (GK) worked incredibly hard throughout the game to stop the high ball into the shooter. Kate Waskett called time in the second half with Lauren Garnham coming on in WD making some great interceptions. Reds’ did not give up and kept working hard to keep the ball out of the Lions attacking end. By the end of the second quarter Lions were now leading 25-18.

The third quarter saw Park’s defence really step up with some fantastic interceptions made from Abby Mahal (GD) and Gabs Cross (GK). Park were fighting hard to get the ball into our attacking circle but the shots were not going into the goal. Our shooters were having to work incredibly hard to outwit the Lions defence. Georgie Howes came on as GA and was doing her best to create some attacking options in the circle.

In the final quarter Park were struggling to convert goals and Lions were able to get the better of us. Pip Medley (GS) & Georgie Howes (GA) came on. Park were able to work the ball down the court but options were limited in the circle. Our defence put in an outstanding performance and did everything they could to try and eliminate the Lions attack and turnover ball.

A very strong performance from Gabs Cross saw her take both home and away POM! She was outstanding and worked incredibly hard all game. The Red’s were unlucky this week as we put in a stronger performance than we did on Wednesday (against Swans) even though we lost. We build and look again to get a win against Karisma on the 2nd of December.
