MATCH REPORT: Sedgley Park vs Rosslyn Park

A dramatic late try saw the 1st XV secure a bonus point and draw at Sedgley Park.

The hosts opened the scoring early when a slick move off the back of a midfield lineout sent winger Rhys Henderson over in the corner, but two tries towards the end of the half meant the 1st XV took the lead headed into the break. First, Josh Pieterse powered his way over on a pick-and-go after Sedgley had stopped a driving lineout just short of their line. Then, Joe Luca Smith finished off a fantastic score from within our own 22 that started with a break by Archie Hosking and ended with a slick grubber in behind by Benji Marfo that was gathered in and dotted down by Smith.

In the second half, Sedgely drew level through substitute front-rower Austin Downham as the hosts made the most of a free play with a penalty advantage deep in Park territory. Tom Stanton re-established the lead just minutes later as he spotted a gap down the blindside following a dominant Park driving maul that had been brought down short of the line and coolly dotted down in the corner.

Within the final 15 minutes, two well taken tries by Jacob Tansey and Nathan Pope looked to have handed Sedgley an impressive win, but an impressive late score for Park rescued the draw. With just a few minutes left to play, a brilliant break by the returning Arthur Ellis from a midfield ruck caused havoc for the Sedgley defence and opened up the space for Stanton to secure his 2nd try after the ball was quickly recycled.

Buoyed by the try, the 1st XV pressed on in search of a winning score in the final phases following the restart, but the clock was not in their favour and the sides remained level as the final whistle blew.
