MATCH REPORT: Rosslyn Park v Leicester Lions

Rosslyn Park 88 – 7 Leicester Lions

11/04/26

Luke Mehson scored an incredible seven tries as Rosslyn Park secured an emphatic 88–7 win against a struggling Leicester Lions side at The Rock. It was a dominant display from the opening minutes, as the hosts ran in a 54–0 lead by half-time before comfortably adding to their tally in the second half on a day which also saw Park back row Henry Spencer make his 150th appearance for the club.

Park started as they meant to go on. Quick hands and early pressure put Luke Mehson in the corner, with Ed Morgan converting to make it 7–0. Minutes later, clever offloads in the 22 helped Jack Digby go over from close range, before a loose ball led to a beautiful line from Joe Luca Smith, who ran in untouched.

At the 20-minute mark, it was the maul’s turn to go to work, with Charlie Piper popping up to extend Park’s lead to 28–0. Luke Mehson grabbed his second five minutes later, with more slick handling allowing him to walk in at the corner, before completing his hat-trick just moments after.

There was no slowing the winger down, as more quick hands put Mehson over again in the corner. On the stroke of half-time, he added another after breaking away from halfway for good measure, giving Park an astounding 54–0 lead heading into the sheds.

It took 10 minutes for Park to strike again in the second half, with Digby claiming his second as clever offloads put him under the posts. Leicester then managed a response, as sustained phases on the Park line eventually saw Humphreys break through a gap to score.

However, that momentum didn’t last long. Benji Marfo, on his final home game for the club, picked up a loose ball and ran through to score. Five minutes later, the maul was back at work, with Max Fraine emerging from the bottom to claim the try. Luke Mehson then added another in the corner before, on 67 minutes, he equalled the club record for tries in a game by capitalising on yet another loose ball.

Finally, Max Fraine ensured Park would pass the 85-point mark, again finishing from a driving maul, as Rosslyn Park secured an 88–7 win in their final home game of the season.
