MATCH REPORT: Oxshott B vs Kingston Reds

The Reds took on Oxshott in a tightly-contested match on Saturday. The starting line-up was as follows: Gabs Cross (GK), Simone Kirkpatrick (GD), Kate Waskett (WD), Hannah Gilbert (C), Milly Marsh (WA), Tash Eeles (GA), Pip Medley (GS), with Lucy Patterson and Abby Mahal providing fresh legs later in the match at C and WD, respectively.

It had been goal for goal all the way through the first half, with Rosslyn Park keeping the opposition’s two key players – the six-foot-something Goal Shooter and Goal Defence – at bay.

Strong centre passes, relentless defence all the way down the court and pinpoint accuracy with our shooting meant our confidence kept growing throughout the match. Unfortunately, Oxshott capitalised on one or two Park errors, which allowed them to pull away and eventually win 41-35. Players of the match were Gabs Cross, who was tenacious in the circle, and Hannah Gilbert, who the opposition described as “a brick wall”.

Regardless of the result, the match demonstrated just how far this team has come this season in terms of skill, tactics and mentality. And with two matches to go, we’re still very much in the running for top of the league. Watch this space.
