The first match of the season for the Kingston Blues team was one of high temperatures, hard work and big score lines. The majority of the squad are stepping into their 3rd season with the Blues and the team had 2 members (Nana and Zoë) making their Rosslyn Park debut.

Blues came out of the blocks with great energy and plays down the court, with Kate and Pip’s partnership dominating the opposition’s defence with them both sinking some brilliant long shots. Lydia, Jess and Charlotte worked well in defence to hold Cobham to scoring only 3 goals. First quarter ended 17-3 to Kingston Blues.

The second quarter was an equally top performance, with Blues seeing debutants Zoë (C) and Nana (WD) come on to help extend the score line. Maddie (WA) made up the centre court three, with all of them bringing speed and agility into the middle of the court. Maddie and Zoë made some great feeds, making the Cobham defence work hard. Park had a commanding 29-7 lead going into half time.

With the sun still beating down on us, both teams made a few changes at half time: Charlotte (WD), Nana (GD), Pip (GA) and Kate (GS). A number of intense battles were witnessed, with Zoë (C) taking charge in the centre of the court, linking up with Charlotte well. Nana showed her strength in GD and stuck to the Cobham GA like glue. As a result, Park maintained a notable lead of 40-12 as the game approached the final quarter.

Going into the final quarter of this clash, the Blues were keen to score 50 goals. Jess and Lydia worked hard to retrieve a few rebounds which were converted by great shots by both Kate and Pip. Izzy (C) dictated the centre court and showed some great movement and swings around the circle with Maddie (WA). The final score was 50-18, with the Blues buzzing to have hit half a century in their opening game of the season.

A special shout-out to our home and away POMs Lydia and Nana. Both of them made numerous flying interceptions that turned over many Cobham plays – it was stunning to watch. That’s one win from one, let’s keep pushing for another undefeated season!
