MATCH REPORT: Ashtead All Stars A vs Surrey

Rosslyn Park Surrey 63-45 Ashstead Allstars

Saturday 25th November

After a rare Saturday morning lie in, Rosslyn Park Surrey team were raring to go for the top of
the table clash with Ashstead Allstars. With a much younger opposition it was all about playing
to our game, smarter and harder.

Starting Line-up:
GS – Tara Ellis, GA – Georgie Pulsford, WA – Francesca Bennett, C – Lucy Paterson, WD – Jude
Lewis, GD – Annabelle Saggers, GK – Hannah Wallis-Brown
Subs: Gabs Cross, Charlotte Stafford

The first quarter got off to a steady start with both teams settling into the game, what was not
expected was the level of physicality on the body from the opposition, every player stepped up
to the level expected of them while keeping clean play in the eyes of the umpires. Neither team
was able to secure momentum in their favour leaving the score after the first quarter 13-12 to
Rosslyn Park.

The second quarter felt like an age with the endless pushing and shoving from the opposition, in
light of this, Rosslyn Park stayed strong, calm and collected with consistent attack and effortless
shooting from Ellis and Pulsford. Pulsford played herself into the shooting circle more and more
and with some Aussie flair, the Goal Defense had no hope in keeping up. The second quarter
ending 30-25.

After a well deserved half time rest, it was vital we reset our focus and keep strong to maintain
the lead we had worked so hard to achieve. The third quarter saw a huge momentum shift in
favour of Rosslyn Park down to the tireless efforts of the defense (Wallis-Brown, Saggers and
Lewis) working together to grind the opposition’s attack down. Saggers was incredible at
reading play down the court to take multiple intercepts which helped to change the game.
Coupled with consistent mid court play time and time again from (Lewis, McNally and Bennett)
bringing the ball down the court Rosslyn Park were able to stretch the lead to 47-34.

The final quarter was a test of resilience, determination and discipline. It was apparent the
opposition got more feisty and physical. It was critical Rosslyn Park kept composure to draw out
the game. The sheer work and effort both Lewis and McNally exhibited in this area was a key
factor in maintaining the level of play and control throughout the court. This quarter saw the
arrival of Stafford with fresh legs at centre to keep the momentum and control, additionally, the
level of physicality exhibited by the opposition resulting in 2 injuries from Rosslyn Park from Ellis
and Bennett having to come off the court. But, no matter, this did not phase the team and with 5
minutes to go Rosslyn Park were able to come out with a win with the final score: 63-45.

A huge shoutout to Gabs Cross travelling all the way with her passionate and motivating
cheering from the sidelines, as well as the Rosslyn Park Firm (Jenko Jenkins, Kiwi Dave and
Chris Brown (not the singer)) who elevated the teams psyche and ensuring Rosslyn Park
always had the loudest voices on the sidelines.
