Train Inside Out – The Gym @ The Rock

You have no doubt noticed the new gym which has been built out of container units at one end of the training pitch.

This ground-breaking new concept is something Rosslyn Park FC are really proud and pleased to be a part of.

When not being used by the 1st XV, Train Inside Out runs classes for the public early in the mornings, at lunchtimes and in the evenings. There are no contracts or joining fees, just flexible credit packs or rolling monthly memberships for unlimited use or a set number of sessions per week.

Until recently the only option for strength and conditioning for the players has been basic weightlifting equipment in one of the changing rooms, but now the coaches and players have the facilities of a professional set-up at their disposal.

Wattbikes, Concept2 rowers, sleds, prowlers, yokes, tyres and barbells all feature at the gym, which will be a big draw for potential new players.

Train Inside Out has been set up by Holly Hammill, a former director at the RFU who left the corporate life two years ago to follow her passion for fitness. She is a Level 2 CrossFit coach, a Precision Nutrition coach and a huge advocate of making exercise and training fun.

Holly said: “We’re incredibly excited to have opened our unique facility, which is the only one of its kind in the country. For the rugby club it’s brilliant because it has massively upgraded the players’ training facilities and also will bring a whole new set of people to the ground. Plus, it makes great use of the space at times when there would be nothing else happening.

It’s amazing to be out exercising in the sun, and we’ll also be there in the rain and snow through the winter (we have heating for those chilly months!). The classes are suitable for all levels and have been designed for different goals, whether someone wants to improve their overall fitness, strength or mobility. You get all the benefits of a studio class and a group environment, but outside which is proven to be better for increased energy levels and decreased stress.

I’m a firm believer in making fitness fun, not a chore or something you dread doing. That’s why we’ve invested in a huge variety of equipment which is interesting and feels more like playing than training.

It’s incredible how much people love getting back to basics by lifting and carrying heavy stuff – such as the challenge of flipping a tyre!”

The Classes

FIT – a varied workout featuring any combination of running, rowing, biking, barbells, dumbbells, gymnastics, med balls, jumping, throwing, carrying, climbing, kettlebells and more. All movements are fully coached so members learn to move safely and efficiently and details of the daily workouts are posted in advance so they know what’s in store (if they want to!)

BURN – Sunday morning BURN classes are guaranteed to raise your heartrate, get your sweat on and give you an endorphin high! The movements will be simple but brutally effective.

GRIT – want to shift some heavy stuff? Then GRIT is for you. Expect tyre flips, yoke carries, prowlers, sled drags and more.
